CKF Schools

In developing this comprehensive entry level course on kayak fishing, we have drawn from decades, even centuries, of experience. Many of North America and Hawaii's most knowledgable modern kayak fishermen have been resourced along with the practices of pre-modern Aleut, Inuit and Greenland kayak hunters.  The CKF Schools are structured to teach you how to fish your favorite waters effectively and economically from the deck of specially modified molded plastic kayaks.   A day on the water with a CKF Guide will eliminate the first year or two of trial and error that accompanies the self learning process.  The Schools allow you to experience successful kayak fishing from the start. While the majority of people who take the class are accomplished anglers, we eagerly offer general fishing instruction for new anglers too. Additionally, participation in the CKF Schools will significantly minimize unnecessary equipment loss and damage normaly associated with trial and error kayak fishing.

Here is a portion of the "curriculum".

1) "Better than basic" kayak skills and safety with techniques for open-deck kayak fishing;

2) How to select and outfit the best kayak model to suit your particular needs;

3) Live bait applications including procurement, storage and transportation;

4) Targeting fish with artificial lures and light tackle;

5) Use and applications for sonar (permanent and portable fishfinders) on a fishing kayak;

6) Fly fishing, trolling, hand-line fishing, gear, tackle and equipment, kayak riggings and much more!

7) Years of technical support from the Coastal Kayak Fishing Guides, if and when you ever need it, with a simple phone call.

Thanks: A special thanks to our sponsors who support the Fishing Schools and help make it possible to introduce thousands of anglers to the sport: Plano Molding, Shimano Fishing, Accurate Fishing Reels, JPW Dry Bags, Fish Trap Lures, Neptune International, Wilderness Systems Kayaks..... Also to all our valued clients, freinds & family for their never ending passion, patience and support of our ongoing quest to make the dream a reality.                                                   Dennis Spike and The CKF Guides.

For most anglers, a day with a CKF Guide is the only formal instruction you will ever need to enjoy a lifetime of quality fishing on your kayak. Many past participants claim the school trimmed up to two years off the self learning process. For the novice kayak angler, most beginning and intermediate paddling skills are included in the course of instruction.

Coastal Kayak Fishing Schools are fully outfitted.  If you already have a kayak, we'll rig it at the beach so you can spend the day in your own boat. A tackle pack is provided by various sponsors and a darn good lunch is supplied by your guide.  Instruction on the beach starts the day followed by a beach launch, a few more on the water "lessons" and then we just fish.

The cost of the fully outfitted guided school is $350 for individual sessions and $185 per person when 2 anglers participate.  Contact CKF directly to get paired up.  The CKF School sessions are limited to 2 participants per guide and last 5-8 hours, conditions permitting.  Schools are conducted in greater San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles Counties, Malibu, Ventura and Santa Barbara California year `round at the beach, on the bays and at the local lakes.  Schools and Clinics are conducted May through December in Monterey County and Santa Cruz California.  Schools are available for both spincast/conventional and flyfishing anglers and for men, women and children over 10 years and older.  A solid inshore fishery and balmy days compliment winter fishing on the Southern California Coast.  B.Y.O Kayak Schools, for anglers who have already purchased a kayak, cost just $145 with 2 participants.  Species targeted include halibut, calico and sand bass, barracuda, yellowtail, sole, thresher and leopard sharks and more.   *Experienced kayak anglers looking to improve on particular skills should consider attending the CKF Clinics, offered from San Diego north.*

The Coastal Kayak Fishing Inc. schools will provide even the most experienced anglers with the skills needed to take the guesswork out of fishing on a modified kayak.
