For anglers new to big game kayak fishing, guiding will focus on;
| 1. | Kayak fishing skills and safety |
| 2. | How to outfit a kayak for fishing |
| 3. | Live bait applications and targeting species |
| 4. | Fishing with artificial lures |
| 5. | Using sonar (fishfinders) |
| 6. | Fighting and successfully landing big game fish!! |
This trip caters to both experienced kayak anglers and novice thrill seekers looking to battle BIG FISH from the kayaks. Try it and YOU'LL be hooked! Tuna, pargo, amberjack and crevalle, dorado, roosterfish, even billfish are landed on the kayaks. This is your chance to establish new personal bests with fish that can go over 50 pounds... way over! Expert kayak fishing guides are on the water to assist in team effort fishing as well as "mothership" support from the Leonero fleet. We've patented the "Sea of Cortez Sleighride" and we'd love to have you down to fish this beautiful tropical paradise.
The Kayak Fishing Package includes 4 days of kayak
rental, up to 6 guided sessions with 2-3 sessions of mothership supportbased on group
size, live bait, fish icing and panga gratuity. Rates start at $495.00 per
person/double occupancy and include 4 days/3 nights lodging, 3 meals daily prepared by
Leonero's skilled staff (the food's really good!) and the government mandated

Children under 5 are free with paying adults. Single occupancy rates start at $695
and are all inclusive.
Extra night lodging, extra day fishing, boat, and room upgrades are available and remain
the best fishing value to be found anywhere in the world. The East Cape is one of
the last great and AFFORDABLE fishing destinations left and Rancho Leonero offers both
standard and deluxe accomodations to fit your needs and your budget. Space on the
kayak trips is limited and prices are subject to availability. The Rancho
Leonero/CKF Offshore Kayak Fishing trips consistently produce heavy fish, variety and
excitement. John Ireland, owner of Hotel Rancho Leonero and an avid kayak fisherman,
offers this unique fishing experience at an amazing low price. Double and
triple occupancy rates are significantly lower than single rates. Call Rancho
Leonero's San Diego office toll free at 1-800-646-2252 or e-mail them directly for availablity and
reservations. With only 34 rooms, Rancho Leonero fills up fast and reservations for
the Offshore Kayak Fishing Trips should be made well in advance (at least 4-6 months) of
the scheduled dates.
Stuff You Should Bring for Fishing the Leonero Kayaks
20 and 30 pound conventional outfits with rods not exceeding 8 feet long (7-7 1/2 footers are perfect!). A spool of extra line for each of the lighter reels and some 30# fluerocarbon leader. Your fly rods and flies of choice for bluewater and beach cast flyfishing. A few Rapalas and slow trolling lures in a variety of sizes and colors. Check the Rancho Leonero web site for the most recent hot colors and patterns. Take several Krocodiles and spoon blades in blue, chrome and mackerel patterns from 1/2 to 2 1/2 ounces. The 2.5 ounce Kroc in green mackerel or chrome prism pattern is Spike's all around spoon for the Sea of Cortez. Also pack some wire leaders and plenty of quality hooks and sinkers, a few dry bags, your PFD, a short gaff and a sea anchor. Many people, comfortable with the feel and riggings of their own kayak seat, bring their own. If you have a portable sonar unit and/or a handheld marine radio, pack them along with extra pliers, tee shirts and sunglasses. This is a tropical region and some folks fish the kayaks under the hot Mexican sun for up to 10 hours each day. A good hat with a backup ballcap and a quart of waterproof sunscreen will let you avoid an unpleasant sunburn. Other things you may want to consider packing include a Plano Trolling Bait Bucket with lanyard, vacuum sealer/ziplock freezer bags, permanent marker, duct tape, Krazy Glue, reel lubricant, burlap sack, paddle leash and fillet knife. Fish cleaning is available throughout the day from brothers Phillipe and David for a gratuity. The Leonero kayaks are mostly Ocean Kayak Scrambler XT's. Rental quality paddles are supplied. If you travel with your breakdown paddle, we suggest you bring it to fish the Leonero Kayaks by bubble wrapping the blades and the ends of the shafts and taping the paddle to your rod carrier.
Getting the Most Out of Your Stay at Rancho Leonero
We suggest you consider an extra day or two at the Ranch to appreciate more fishing time and a truly relaxing experience. The cities of Cabo San Lucas and La Paz, only 90 minutes north and south, offer great shopping and partying opportunities. Closer destinations include the towns of Santiago, home of an impressive little zoo, and Miraflora's leather and handmade furniture factories. Hotel Rancho Leonero is the premier East Cape fishing resort though and few find themselves compelled to leave the ranch. Privately located on a remote coastal point with miles of beaches in either direction, it is the ideal "fishing destination" for the wife and kids. Horseback riding, quad rentals, guided nature tours, snorkeling and diving are just some of the extra activities available. Child care is readily available for a few dollars a day. Leonero's service oriented staff is the best and within such a truly remarkable tropical setting, you're sure to meet guests who came for the ambiance and not to fish. Go figure! If you are a kayak angler and into the thrill of catching a very big fish from a very small boat, this is the trip of a lifetime! Once you've been there you'll return again...and again. Contact Coastal Kayak Fishing at 818-345-5824 anytime for more details.
